History and Aims

How it all began...

1980's - 2000's - No interest in gardening, apart from the odd cactus and bonsai tree on my bedroom windowsill. Art was my main interest.

2008 - Moved into own home, windowsills slowly become greenhouses.

2009 - Greenfly infestation on windows due to large amount of pepper, chilli and tomato plants.

2010 - Moved house, and finally a backyard! Plastic greenhouse was purchased - successful harvest of chillies, peppers and aubergines.

2011 - 2013 - Another new house - this time with a dark and damp north facing backyard and windows. Can barely keep a house plant alive so signed onto allotment waiting list.

January 2013 - Entered into an allotment share found on Gumtree. Very excited - gorgeous old apple tree, but a lot of work!

June 2013 - Kicked off allotment by committee because it wasn't kept in pristine condition and we welcomed wildlife, particularly a swarm of bees that moved into an old birdhouse on the apple tree.

July 2013 - December 2014 - Back to struggling with house plants while dreaming of a piece of sunny land. Began working on producing own artwork depicting the Northumberland coast.

January 2015 - My very first allotment! Excited, nervous and looking forward to getting my hands dirty!!

My aim: In my opinion, allotments should be for anyone. To enjoy spending time outdoors, to grow your own produce organically, to have a healthier lifestyle, to take on a responsibility to protect local wildlife and to exercise your creative imagination!

The above aims are what I hope to achieve, it doesn't matter how long it takes. An artist at heart, but a lover of the outdoors and wildlife, I want all three things to merge.
I am going to use this blog to document my journey, my mistakes and discoveries.
